The Human Fulfillment Institute (HFI) is a multi-disciplinary leadership group that helps catalyze effectiveness and fulfillment of individuals, teams, organizations and communities. Our work begins with two foundational questions:

⇒ How, both individually and collectively, do we live a truly well-lived life, in which our felt inner experience is characterized by deep well-being, inspiration, connection, and gratitude?

⇒ How, both individually and collectively, do we fulfill our greatest potential for effective action, creative expression, accomplishment and contribution?

We ask these questions as they relate to individual experience, to the making of great organizations, and to the larger imperative of helping to create a healthy, flourishing society.

On the surface, these focus points may seem commonplace or similar to the work of other organizations. But they actually point to a set of specific principles and practices that seek to move the entire field of personal and professional development in new and expanded directions. Our people have spent decades of their lives solving some of the toughest problems in life coaching and leadership development:

Instead of slow, slogging change, we help you make radical shifts in the trajectory of your life and your organization. And we do it with creative approaches that you ultimately direct as the author of your own work and the authority of your own life. It is ultimately your own “internal g.p.s,” your skill and wisdom, that guides the process.

Instead of momentary feel-good solutions, we work with you to reshape the “architecture” of your habits – both individually and in your shared social and cultural field.

We help you discover when and when not to make principled compromises — without ever compromising your principles.

We help you simultaneously develop leadership qualities of compassion, flexibility., collaborative spirit, sensitive attunement to others, and genuine love (yes, we unashamedly use the word) — and also help you be calmly assertive and utterly unmesswithable, because you’re firmly rooted in your mission and values.

We help you cultivate deep, integrated mindful awareness in-the-midst-of-it-all instead of settling for some static meditation form that fails to carry over to daily life. (For example, you won’t find us encouraging you to monotonously count your breath – unless of course being a human abacus is your personal passion, in which case we’re fine with it.)

To be clear, our intention is not to be brash or cavalier or to condemn other more conventional approaches. We simply realize that a lot is at stake for our clients and for our world. We want to help in any way that we can so that your life, your organization, and the world you help to create are all operating at the highest levels of excellence that they possibly can be.

So how do we do it?

Interactive Awareness ™

At their core, our programs are rooted in the principle of Interactive Awareness ™. Interactive Awareness is a practice and way of being that unites conscious awareness with dynamic, creative action. It is both a natural expression of human freedom and a discipline that can be learned, developed and deepened in accordance with the unique needs and abilities of each person and each organization.

Unlike stressful striving or static mindfulness, Interactive Awareness works with each person’s unique natural rhythm to effectively oscillate between introspection and action -- between inwardly directed experience and the shared social field. Each person is guided to find their own best rhythm for optimal productivity, creativity, and value-based strategic decision making with a minimum of unnecessary stress.

Awareness is applied both to coarse levels of human experience (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell, thought, emotion), and also to more subtle energetic levels of experience. It is applied to both the individual dimensions of experience and also to the shared social field. And it is in this integration of different dimensions that the practice becomes especially powerful.

More specifically, Interactive Awareness is applied to several distinct aspects of experience that we refer to as the “Eight Domains” of experience:

Eight Domain Integration

Awareness and proactive responsiveness are brought to the  following “eight domains” of experience:

· Mind (Cognitive)
· Body (Somatic)
· Emotions (Emotive)
· Spirit (Spiritual)
· Physical Environment (Environmental)
· Social Environment (Interpersonal)
· Awareness (Conscious)
· Action (Proactive)

Each of these is explored:

A.  As a distinct locus of human experience

B.  In both an active and a receptive dimension

C. On both a concrete level of experience and on more subtle energetic levels

D. Individually as a distinct domain of experience and action, and as it relates (synergistically) to each of the other domains

The Paradox of Fulfillment

Finally, we will mention one very simple, specific principle that we refer to as the “Paradox of Fulfillment.” The Paradox of Fulfillment is that our well-being is often best served when we focus on the well-being of others. And our ability to be of service to others is often best served when we care for our own well-being. At HFI, we powerfully leverage this paradox to bring about rapid, lasting, positive change, both individually and collectively.
